WVNR (1340 AM) and WNYV (94.1 FM) are full service radio stations broadcasting an Adult Contemporary / Full Service format . WVNR is licensed to Poultney, Vermont, and WNYV is licensed to Whitehall, New York, USA.
The sister stations serve eastern Vermont and western New York, and are simulcast most of the time. They occasionally split to cover separate sports events or meetings.
The two stations are currently owned by Pine Tree Broadcasting Company and go by the on-air slogan of “Lakes Region Radio”.
WNYV has arguably the most underrated FM broadcast signal in western Vermont and eastern New York. WNYV-FM sends a strong signal that reaches from just south of Burlington, Vermont to Albany, New York, and from the Middlebury-Rutland-Manchester area of Vermont to the Lake George-Glens Falls-Saratoga region in New York.
WVNR/WNYV are live stations in direct contact with the audience. They are very community-minded radio stations, providing information about local events, and broadcasting live from many of them.
The music format can be generally categorized as Adult Contemporary, but the stations play a wide variety with the DJ’s actually picking the music that is being played, using charted hits from the 50’s through the current year. Hits from past top-40 charts, country, rock, and adult contemporary can all be heard, along with some specialty music shows requested by local listeners.
Other locally produced programs include a Bargain Show, where listeners can list items for sale or swap, or items they are looking for. A local guide shares his knowledge on a hunting and fishing show. Friday night listeners ask for dedications and requests, and they are played within minutes.
Local features include the Community Calendar, a Cornell Cooperative Extension Report, monthly updates from the Office for the Aging, a Health Minute, and a Pet Patrol where people can list lost and found pets and hear about adoptable pets.
The stations broadcast national and local news breaks at the top of every hour, and at the bottom of the hour during drive time, and update the weather 4 times an hour.
WVNR/WNYV broadcast live from local high school and local college sports contests, providing a full schedule of coverage.
Lakes Region Radio’s motto is “Dedicated to Community Service” and the stations continually are working to improve their service to local communities.
